I was skeptical about a lighter dutch oven, but this 5-quart beast sears meat just as well as my cast iron and is way easier to handle. The lid fits so snugly it practically locks in steam for soups.
The deep, even walls really hold heat well; my stew simmered perfectly after just a short preheat. It's noticeably lighter than my old cast iron pot, which makes lifting it with one hand a breeze. Very happy with this purchase.
Pulled this out of the box and immediately noticed how much lighter it is than my old cast iron pot—the handles stay surprisingly cool on the stove, too. Made a batch of chili that simmered evenly without scorching the bottom.
Just made the most tender pot roast I've ever had, and clean-up was a breeze since nothing stuck to the surface. The lid fits so snugly that barely any steam escapes.
I was looking for something lighter than my old cast iron pot, and this hybrid version is a game changer. The 5-quart size is perfect for family stews, and it heats up fast without scorching the bottom.
I was actually surprised by how evenly the heat distributed across the bottom—no hot spots when I seared chicken for a stew. My only small gripe is the lid fit could be a tiny bit tighter, but for the weight savings over cast iron, it’s a solid trade-off.
It’s decent for the price—the lighter weight is a real plus for me—but the lid doesn’t seal as tightly as I expected, so stews lose a bit more moisture than usual.
