Quick answer
To keep your dish drying mat clean and odor-free, rinse it after each use and give it a deeper clean weekly with mild soap and water.
Why regular care matters
Dish drying mats sit in a damp environment, which can lead to mildew, stains, and unpleasant smells if neglected. The HexClad Dish Drying Mat is made from an absorbent, quick-drying material that can hold up to a cup of water, so it’s designed to handle moisture — but it still needs proper care to stay fresh and effective.
How to clean your dish drying mat
- Rinse after each use: After drying dishes, shake off any crumbs or debris and rinse the mat under warm water. This prevents food particles from settling and reduces the chance of mold. A quick rinse takes 10 seconds and cuts down on deep cleaning frequency.
- Deep clean weekly with mild soap: Fill a sink or basin with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Submerge the mat and gently scrub it with a soft sponge or cloth. Pay extra attention to any stained or sticky spots. Avoid harsh bleach or abrasive cleaners — they can damage the mat’s absorbent surface.
- Rinse thoroughly and air dry: Rinse the mat completely to remove all soap residue. Lay it flat on a drying rack or hang it over the edge of the sink. Make sure it’s fully dry before storing or using again. Never fold or store a damp mat — that’s the fastest way to get mildew.
